Lt. Governor Findley
Appointed by Governor Mark Parkinson, Troy Findley became the 48th Lieutenant Governor of Kansas on May 15, 2009. Prior to becoming Lieutenant Governor, Findley was Chief of Staff for Governor Kathleen Sebelius. Findley was elected five times to the Kansas House of Representatives representing part of Lawrence and Douglas County for eight years from 1995-2003.
As an official in the Sebelius/Parkinson Administration and as a legislator, Findley has focused his work on growing the Kansas economy and creating jobs; ensuring every Kansas child receives a quality education; protecting Kansas families and communities; improving access to quality affordable health care; and taking advantage of the state’s renewable energy assets.
In the Kansas House, Findley was a member of the House Democratic Leadership Team serving as Policy Chair. His committee assignments included: Financial Institutions and Insurance; Economic Development; Ethics and Elections; Federal and State Affairs; and Taxation. He also served as Ranking Minority Member of the Redistricting Committee during the 2001-2002 Sessions.
As a legislator, Findley made improving education his top legislative priority. He believes that promoting stronger K-12 schools and world-class colleges and universities are the key to providing Kansans with tools and resources they need to succeed and prosper in the 21st century. Findley worked in the legislature on efforts to initiate early childhood education programs for at-risk four-year olds, to establish multi-year financing for our public schools and to make college more affordable.
Findley was elected to his fifth term in the Kansas House of Representatives on November 5, 2002. He declined to take the oath of office for that term so he could go to work for Governor Sebelius as a Legislative Liaison in January 2003. Findley became Governor Sebelius’ Chief of Staff in July 2005.
Findley is a native Kansan who was born and raised in Lawrence. He now lives in Topeka with his wife, Jennifer, and son, Zachary. He attended Lawrence public schools and graduated from the University of Kansas. Prior to entering public service, Findley worked in the grocery and retail industry. He also worked for UMB Bank in Lawrence.
Lt. Governor Findley will serve as chair of the Governor’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Advisory Group and as the Governor’s designee on the Midwest Cancer Alliance Partner Advisory Board.
