| Federal Victims of Crime Act
Victim Assistance Grant (VOCA) |
| Purpose |
To provide direct services to crime victims. Direct services are defined
as those efforts that (1) respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims; (2)
assist primary and secondary victims of crime to stabilize their lives after a victimization;
(3) assist victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system; and (4) provide
victims of crime with a measure of safety such as boarding up broken windows and replacing or
repairing locks. Priority is given to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and child
abuse. A minimum of 10% of each federal fiscal year's grant will be allocated to each of the
priority categories of crime victims. An additional 10% minimum of each VOCA grant will be allocated
to victims of violent crime who were previously underserved. (e.g., DUI, robbery, gang violence,
etc.) |
| Eligible Applicants |
Funds are available to units of state or local government and not for
private organizations. A 20% non-federal cash or in-kind match is required. |
