American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
On Feb. 13, 2009, Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 at the urging of President Obama, who signed it into law four days later. A direct response to the economic crisis, the Recovery Act has three immediate goals:
- Create new jobs as well as save existing ones
- Spur economic activity and invest in long-term economic growth
- Foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending

American Recovery Act - Education
Kansas will benefit from more than $580 million for tuition assistance and improved public education.
This money will support local school districts, keep teachers in classrooms and maintain pre-school and special education programs, and provide increased financial assistance for students to attend college. The American Recovery Act will lay the groundwork for today’s students to meet the demands of a 21st century workforce.
