Kansas Flag Honors

The State of Kansas’ Flag Honors program pays tribute to the service of Kansas military personnel who are killed in the line of duty, and ensures flag etiquette is consistent throughout the state.

The State of Kansas Flag Honors program, implemented through Executive Order, allows for the flag of the United States to be displayed at half-staff throughout the State of Kansas when a member of the Kansas National Guard is killed in the line of duty; a member of the Kansas Air National Guard is killed in the line of duty; or a Kansas resident serving as a member of the United States Armed Forces is killed in the line of duty.  In each instance, the date the flag would fly at half-staff will be designated by the Governor.

Topeka – In accordance with Executive Order 10-12, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from sun-up to sun-down on Wednesday, December 7th in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is an annual observance to commemorate the soldiers, sailors and marines who lost their lives on December 7th, 1941 when the Empire of Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, forcing America’s entry into the Second World War.

“Pearl Harbor was a pivotal moment in the history of the United States, and indeed for the whole world.” Governor Brownback said.  “On this December 7th, I encourage all Kansans to remember the unity and courage this day instilled in our nation 70 years ago.”
