Farnborough Air Show in England

Governor Kathleen Sebelius led a delegation of economic development and business leaders to the Farnborough Air Show in England to promote the Kansas aviation industry and encourage investment in Kansas by global aviation companies.

“100 years ago Clyde Cessna and Walter Beech came to Kansas, joined an emerging industry, and made history. Today, more than 50 percent of the airplanes flown in the world are made right here in Kansas, and our economy, our state and our country have benefited from their innovation and determination.

“With our Economic Revitalization and Reinvestment Act, we’ve continued to grow and support the aerospace industry and I was honored to promote Kansas’ strength in the global marketplace,” Sebelius said.

Rooks County Health Center dedication

On the first weekend of September, Governor Sebelius attended the dedication of the new Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas.

The community’s original hospital, built 50 years earlier, needed updated technology and increased capacity. The citizens of Rooks County worked together to approve bonds for the new hospital and more than $1.5 million in private contributions have been donated to the project.

“The local dedication and community involvement shown by the citizens of Rooks County is the foundation on which this state and nation will fix our health care system,” Sebelius said.

“I urge all Kansans to take a little time from e-mail and text messaging to take time to write a personal letter and use a stamp with a little history of Kansas,” Sebelius said.

The new Kansas stamp features the state’s flag, along with familiar farm images such as trees, buildings, and a silo. More information is available at http://www.usps.com/.
