Governor Sebelius Signs Bill to Promote Job Growth in Saline County

Governor Kathleen Sebelius today signed HB 2102, a bill promoting job creation in Saline County.

“The recent exposure Salina gained with the GlobalFlyer showcased the great business opportunities and workforce available in Saline County. I am very pleased to sign this bill encouraging businesses to create jobs in Salina and surrounding communities,” Governor Sebelius said.

HB 2102 expands a current sales tax exemption available for purchases associated with the construction, reconstruction, remodeling, or enlarging of a facility located within an enterprise zone, in this case a zone within Saline County. The exemption would run through April 1, 2007.

Proponents of the legislation, including Senator Pete Brungardt, the Salina Airport Authority, and the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, noted that, in addition to the potential assistance to other businesses, this legislation will immediately help Salina Vortex build a bigger factory. The manufacturer of valves and dry materials handling equipment has been working with the airport authority to build a bigger facility that the company would own, rather than lease.
