Governor appoints Mark Alan Ward to serve Sixth Judicial District
Judgeship serves Bourbon, Linn and Miami counties

Citing his extensive legal experience, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Mark Alan Ward to serve Bourbon, Linn and Miami counties as a district court judge in the Sixth Judicial District.

“Mark has a range of experience including working in private practice, and as a general counsel, county counsel, and city attorney.  This breadth of experience has prepared him to handle the array of cases district court judges hear,” said Sebelius.

Ward, Fort Scott, has 25 years of legal experience.  Currently, he is in private practice representing a wide range of clients and providing substantial amounts of pro bono work.  Ward has previously served as general counsel to the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office, as well as serving as Bourbon County Attorney and currently as Bronson City Attorney.

Ward is the president of the Bourbon County Bar Association and is a member of the Kansas Bar Association, Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American Bar Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Ward received his Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law in 1981, and received his bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University in 1978.

Mark is the son of Dan and Bobbe Ward and is married to Lisa, daughter of James and Mary Jo DiNardo. They have two sons, Alex and Austin.
