Sebelius makes nominations to boards, councils and commissions Several of the boards, commissions and councils that promote the safety, health and general well-being of Kansans will continue to benefit from the experience of members reappointed to their posts by Governor Kathleen Sebelius. “Kansas is a better place because of the service provided by the Kansans who take time out of their lives to help guide our state. Our neighborhoods are safer, our residents healthier and our communities more vibrant because of the time, energy and dedication of those who have chosen to serve their fellow Kansans,” Sebelius said. Dale Cushinberry, Topeka, was reappointed to the Supreme Court Nominating Commission to serve a four-year term. The commission is responsible for recommending qualified individuals for appointments to the Kansas Supreme Court and the Kansas Court of Appeals. Senator Janis Lee, Kensington, along with James Maag and Senator Donald Betts, both of Wichita, were reappointed to the Kansas Guardianship Board of Directors for four-year terms. A partnership involving the State of Kansas and citizen volunteers, this group helps Kansans with disabilities lead full and productive lives and represents their interests by serving as guardians and/or conservators. Kelly Johnston, Wichita, Doug Sebelius, Norton, and Shari Wilson, Kansas City, were reappointed to the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission for four-year terms. This commission conserves and enhances Kansas’ wildlife, and provides the public with opportunities to use and appreciate Kansas’ natural resources. Terry Brewster, Wichita, and Bradley Gamber, Colby, were reappointed to the Board of Examiners for Hearing Aids for three-year terms. This board regulates the licensing of examiners and the marketing of hearing aids. SRS Secretary Donald Jordan and Kansas Highway Patrol Superintendent Col. William Seck were appointed to the Information Technology Executive Council for eighteen-month terms. Secretary of Labor Jim Garner was also reappointed to this council that oversees policies governing new information technologies and networks shared by multiple agencies in state government. Attorney General Paul Morrison was appointed to the Governor’s Homeland Security Council. The council helps ensure state and federal funds are used to enhance the security of Kansans. # # # |
