Sebelius offers help, comfort to our neighbors in the South A message from Governor Kathleen Sebelius regarding the storms that devastated the South: “Across Kansas, our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their loved ones and homes in the rare February tornados that devastated the South last night. The lack of warning for some, may have accounted for the death toll, which now stands at 52 people in the four affected states. “This morning I met with Adjutant General Tod Bunting and asked him to reach out to the Adjutants General of Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and Alabama to offer the help and support of the Kansas National Guard and our department of emergency management. “I have made calls to the governors of those states to let them know they are in our prayers and we’re here to help in whatever way we can. “Here at home, we know too well the devastation that severe storms can bring to a community. We have experienced personnel who do a wonderful job keeping Kansans safe and secure, and stand ready to offer our assistance to others who need our help. “But we also know in those moments of need, there are people across the country ready to extend a hand, help a neighbor and move forward, together.” # # # |
